The Need to Organize for SNOW

Snow 4Snow is beautiful, but this week the east coast was reminded how treacherous the weather can be. Knoxville was lucky and missed the blizzard this time.  If you are not prepared, spend some time NOW and get organized for the next weather wave.

Organize the Car:

Have small bag stocked with blanket, extra shoes, flashlight, and snacks.

Organize the Pantry:

This is one area that should always be organized.  Clear out-of-date foods, and buy only what you like and have room for.  Don’t let “bulk” buying clutter your space.

Create an Emergency Supply Area:

Have dedicated space for emergency supplies.  Light bulbs, batteries, flash lights, radio, and phone chargers.  Even have games ready should kids be without cable tv.

Organize Toiletries & Linens:

Have blankets and towels clean and organized.  Stock toiletries and first aid supplies.  You never know when the neighbors heat may go out and you have company.

If your storage is limited and you need ideas for create organizing solutions, contact Closets by McKenry for custom closet design.  Be ready, and the next blizzard the only thing on the floor will be family gathering around the fire.

Organizer’s Dream comes to Farmer’s Market
The Container Store
Opens New Location August 9th

ContainerStoreNewWhile professional organizers never encourage buying for the sake of buying, I would like to share some exciting news. For our friends in the west Los Angeles area, if you need innovative, stylish, fun containers for your home or office organizing needs The Container Store is coming your way in the historic Los Angeles Farmer’s Market, adjacent to The Grove.

During the opening weekend, August 9 and 10th, this retail giant will donate 10% of the all that locations sales to Step UP – inspiring women to inspire girls. Since the company began in Dallas in 1978 they not only created the storage and organization category for retail, but have nurtured an employee-first culture along with high level of customer service. It is listed in FORTUNE magazine’s top 100 companies to work for. Many of my colleagues would call the store the Neiman Marcus of containers.

Now about the Farmer’s Market location…
-20,000 square feet of shopping with more than 10,000 mulit-functional and innovative products.
-Products organized in 16 signature lifestyle departments

Just for Men – Wardrobe Organizing Ideas for Condo Living

Does your apartment or condominium fall short on storage?  Be creative and find spaces not being used.  When the wall is showing in a closet, that is a space to claim.  Make room for your Armani by double hanging rods and adding shelves to empty walls.

Turn empty walls...

Into room for shoes, shirts, suits and ties.

Never double stack ties on racks, they get lost. Pull out systems are so convenient.

If clothes are important to you, they deserve respect.  Make room for ties and they will brighten up your closet.

A shallow linen closet could be converted to just the right depth for showcasing your haberdashery.

if the depth is not enough for linens...

Add Shelves for your Shoes

And the ironing board can rest behind the closet door.

Keep things in your home where they are used.  If you press your wardrobe daily, find a home for the iron or steamer in the master closet.

Hooks are easy additions for belts and bath robes.  By making good decisions and thinking “outside the box” or “container”, you might be surprised how much room you are missing!

McKenry Closets are “Best In Show”

2008 Los Angeles Organizing Expo

Chris McKenry of Get it Together LA!

Get It Together LA! received “Best in Show” for outstanding booth design and product display at the 2008 Los Angeles Organizing Expo.  Professional organizers wondered the isles of the Olympic Collection viewing products and services that will help keep clients organized through the year.

Get It Together LA! displayed samples of our custom construction materials for closets, garages, and pantries.  Chris McKenry and Erin Haas enjoyed meeting many colleagues at the event.  Marble samples, hardware, door and drawer finishes were featured highlighting the style and design of the display.

With a record crowd of consumers, organizing professionals, home-building representatives and interior designers, the event drew participants from Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, and as far away as Ohio and Minnesota. The one-of-a-kind organizing Expo was the place to find time-saving products, solutions, tools and services for consumers wanting to get their lives in order and learn first-hand the secrets to an organized life.

John Trosko, President of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Association of Professional Organizers said, “Busy Angelenos probably find the stress and strain of modern life demanding on both their time and space.  It is vital when trying to simplify one’s life to choose the right organizational tools. Lucky for us, there is now a wide variety of stylish, functional and affordable organizing options available and we have many of these products at the Expo.”

This year’s Expo hosted the first ever “Ask the Organizer” Panel. Home and business organizational experts offered guidance and expertise to a packed house of aspiring professional organizers and members of the general public. Questions ranged from residential to small business to corporate organizing concerns. The most anticipated question was how to successfully maintain an organizational system while balancing family, activities and work.

Get It Together LA’s award winning designs received “Best Closet Design” from the Los Angeles Organizing Awards.
